Arrival and departure
What time can I check in?
Check-in is from 4pm. We need the full afternoon to clean and prepare the cottage after the previous guests leave. If you arrive earlier you're very welcome to park up and head to the beach, and we'll message you as soon as the cottage is ready.
What time do I need to check out?
Check-out is by 10am please. This gives the cleaning team enough time to prepare the cottage for the next guests arriving that afternoon.
How do I get the keys?
Full check-in instructions and your unique door code are sent by Chad in your welcome message, which you'll receive shortly after booking is confirmed. Each cottage has self-check-in after 4pm with a key safe. If you haven't received your welcome message, check your spam folder or email us at bookings@cumbriancoastcottages.co.uk.
Can I check in late in the evening?
Yes. The key information in your pre-arrival email covers late arrivals. If you expect to arrive after 9pm please drop us a message so we know to expect you.
Pets
Are dogs welcome?
Yes, all three cottages are pet friendly. We welcome up to two well-behaved dogs per booking. There is a pet fee of £58 per stay, added at checkout.
Are there any rules for dogs?
Dogs must be kept off the furniture and beds. Please bring a dog bed or blanket. Clean up after your dog in the garden and on walks near the property. Allonby beach is open to dogs year-round, which is one of the reasons so many guests bring them.
Can I bring cats or other pets?
Please contact us before booking. We generally only accommodate dogs but are happy to discuss on a case-by-case basis.
The cottages
Is there parking?
Yes, all three cottages have parking. Full parking details for your specific cottage are in your pre-arrival email. Allonby village also has free street parking nearby.
Is there WiFi?
Yes, all cottages have WiFi. The network name and password are displayed in the cottage and included in your pre-arrival email.
Is there a washing machine?
Yes, all three cottages have a washing machine. Old Post Office also has a tumble dryer. There is a drying line in each garden.
Are the cottages suitable for young children?
Yes. All cottages have travel cots and highchairs available on request. Please mention when you book and we will have them ready. Old Post Office has the most ground-floor space and is particularly popular with families with toddlers. Note that Old Post Office has a fenced shallow beck (stream) at the garden edge.
Can I smoke in the cottage or garden?
No smoking anywhere on the property, including gardens. This is a hard rule. We ask guests to smoke off-site away from the property.
What is the maximum occupancy?
Honeysuckle Cottage sleeps 6. Sunset House sleeps 6. Old Post Office sleeps 8. These are hard maximums. Please do not exceed the stated occupancy.
Booking and payment
What is the minimum stay?
The minimum stay is 2 nights. Longer minimum stays may apply during peak school holidays and bank holiday weekends.
How do I pay?
We take payment by card through Stripe, one of the world's most trusted payment processors. The full stay amount is taken at the time of booking. There are no hidden fees when you book direct with us.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations made 14 or more days before check-in receive a full refund. Cancellations between 7 and 14 days before check-in receive a 50% refund. Cancellations within 7 days of check-in are non-refundable. Full details are in our cancellation policy.
Why book direct instead of through Airbnb or Booking.com?
When you book direct you pay no platform service fee, which typically saves 12 to 16% compared to booking through an OTA. You also deal directly with Chad, which means faster responses and more flexibility. The savings are shown on each property page before you pay.
Do you offer discounts for longer stays?
Contact us for stays of 28 nights or more and we will do our best to work something out. Email bookings@cumbriancoastcottages.co.uk.
Getting there
Where exactly is Allonby?
Allonby is a small village on the Solway Coast in Cumbria, about 15 miles south-west of Carlisle and 5 miles north of Maryport. It sits directly on the beach with views across the Solway Firth to Scotland. Honeysuckle Cottage and Sunset House are at Brewery Terrace, CA15 6PL. Old Post Office is at 1 Clarks Terrace, CA15 6PU.
How do I get there by car?
From the M6, exit at junction 41 (Wigton) and follow the A595 west towards Maryport, then the B5300 north along the coast to Allonby. The drive from the M6 is about 30 minutes. Sat-nav to CA15 6PL will get you to Honeysuckle and Sunset House. Use CA15 6PU for Old Post Office.
Can I get there by public transport?
The X5 bus runs between Carlisle, Wigton, Maryport and Whitehaven and has a stop in Allonby. Trains run to Carlisle (West Coast Main Line) and Maryport (Cumbrian Coast Line). A car makes exploring the area much easier but is not essential for the beach and village.
